The 2011 Sporting calendar will be best remembered by the Fiji Weightlifting Federation as one of their proudest moments.

Their achievement in the Pacific Games in winning 7 gold medals, the biggest by any of the sporting bodies from Team Fiji was historic.

Secretary Christopher Yee said the 7 Gold medals were the best of all Fiji sports at the Games followed closely by Karate and Shooting with 6 Gold medals each.

In total they walked away with 21 medals which were won by a team of 11 lifters comprising 6 men and 5 women with 9 lifters under the age of 21.

Golden boy Manueli Tulo won three gold medals in the Pacific Games together with Maria Liku.

This performance is a great achievement for a sport compared to 2008 when there were only 3 active lifters in the country.
