The Works Ministry has been given a proposal by the Nadi Weather Office to merge the Hydrology Department and the MET service to better the communications between the two departments.

Director Rajendra Prasad said currently there is often a communication breakdown, on the rise in river levels and other information which the Hydrology Department has.

He added by merging the two departments, members of the public can be better informed on flooding beforehand.

The weather office has raised concerns on the faulty equipment with government as their PWD station in Tamavua is not working and also some weather stations placed in the eastern division is also not operating for sometime which is making their work much tougher.

According to Prasad, they are not able to get accurate rainfall data.
