Proper process not followed: Tuisolia’s lawyer
Those were the strong words of Ratu Sakiusa Tuisolia's lawyer, Devinesh Sharma after it was revealed in High Court that the 6 charges against Tuisolia by FICAC were completely new and not merely a reduction from the 44 original charges.
The 6 charges include fraudulent conversion, fraudulent falsification of publication and fraudulent falsification of accounts.
Outside court, Sharma said this was not on, as his client has been under bail conditions for almost two years for the original 44 charges against him and a proper process of new charges has to be followed beginning in the Magistrates Court.
In the High Court, FICAC lawyer Aca Rayawa had asked Gounder if one of the charges could be removed and replaced by 3 substitute charges, bringing the total number of charges against Tuisolia to 8.
However, Justice Daniel Gounder agreed with the Defence Counsel, that these were new charges, and has given FICAC until 3pm tomorrow to file the new charges after which Sharma will be given time to reply.
The matter has been adjourned to November 16th for Pre-Trial Conference.
