The Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation are working together with New World Supermarket and Morris Hedstrom to ensure that those people under the Government's Food Voucher Programme have proper identifications.

Media Liaison Officer, Anshoo Chandra said while there are no major problems faced by the two authorized vendors and the food voucher recipients, it has been found that some recipients who come with their voucher do not have identification card and they are now working on this.

She also said the ministry is looking at assisting recipients who come under the Family Care and Protection Allowances category, single mothers and also families where the breadwinner has deceased.

The vendors have also been asked to put nutritious and healthy food on their shelves while the recipients have been urged to buy only basic food items.

The Ministry has also requested the two authorized vendors to look for agents who can supply basic food items in remote parts of the country.

Chandra said this request was made after another set of meetings took place between the ministry and the vendors as they found out that people living in the remote parts of the country had to travel far to use their vouchers.
