The President of the Fiji Law Society (FLS) said the government did not follow the proper procedures when it came to the deportation of the second Publisher of Fiji Times, Rex Gardner.

Dor Sami Naidu said the Immigration Department has every right to cancel any working permit if someone has been found in breach of their permit, although Gardner's conviction was not noted by the judge as it would have affected his permit.

Naidu said there is a due process of law which must be followed, which was not in the case for Gardner.
