There is a real need for professional surveyors in the country.

Those were the words of Lands and Mineral Resources Permanent Secretary Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni during the 50th Anniversary of Fiji Institute of Surveyors.

Lt Colonel Leweni said Cabinet recently approved the Land Use Decree 2010 and a land use unit has now been established within the Ministry to drive Government's land reform initiative to make more land available for productive use.

He said both Government and private surveyors play important roles in the survey of land and their roles have become more distinct in the recent days partly because of the definition categories of land types in the country.

Lt Colonel Leweni said Government is focused on achieving objectives for a better Fiji for all and encouraged the Fiji Institute of Surveyors to partake in the national undertaking adding that Lands and Mineral Resources Ministry cannot meet the demand for qualified surveyors who are ethical and committed to the profession.
