Process is underway to declare Rakiraki a town.
A proposal to declare Rakiraki a town began in 1957 and into the early 1970s when it was shelved however it was reactivated in 1992 through a request by the Ra Rural Local Authority.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama directed that Rakiraki be declared a town during his visit to Rakiraki this year and the work has since begun by the Local Government Ministry.
