In an attempt to rehabilitate the prisoners, the Lautoka Prison is organizing a Prisons Market Day from next Monday at Churchill Park.

The organizer of the event, Nemani Ligadua said they want to create awareness to the general public on what the prisoners are capable of doing and what they can do if assisted when they are released.

Ligadua said it is everybody's responsibility to rehabilitate the offender and breaking the offender’s cycle will not be possible if the community does not support offender’s rehabilitation.

He said the successful reintegration of offenders into the community provides the best protection for the society.

The Prisons Market Day will start from next Monday to Friday where people will get to buy vegetables, root crops, bread, eggs, tea trays, sulus, variety of pillow cases, piglets and many other items.
