The Interim Education Minister has reminded all the teachers, headteachers and principals that any breach of leave conditions will result in disciplinary action being taken against them.

Filipe Bole said the Education Ministry will now see that teaching and learning will not be compromised at any time and teachers going on leave will have to take their leave according to the regulation.

He said under its policy, the Ministry encourages teachers to improve their academic qualifications and teaching skills. Bole said it is encouraging to see that teachers are enrolling at their own expense for part time and Distance Flexible Learning courses.

However he is calling on teachers to ensure that they do not become so preoccupied with their studies that their students’ progress is jeopardized. He said teachers cannot attend lectures during teaching hours and school heads do not have the authority to grant such leave to teachers. He calls on school heads to inform the Education Ministry of all leave taken by the teachers.

Stay with us we will have more on this issue this afternoon.
