Love, compassion and tolerance needs to be centre stage of our lives.

This is the message from President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau as we celebrate Christmas day today.

Ratu Epeli said people share a variety of religious faith and beliefs and the right to hold these beliefs must always be upheld.

He said no religion should be more favoured than any other when it comes to the running of the nation's affairs.

He said people have their constitutional right to believe in whatever they choose.

The President said the signs are extremely encouraging as we stand at the gate of a momentous year, leading up to the election before the end of September which will introduce the first genuine democracy and restore parliamentary rule.

He added that people should harness the Christian spirit to renew our commitment to realize those hopes to build a new Fiji based on genuine equality and justice for all.
