Planting a tree today will be the best gift for our future generations for their social and economic development.
This is the message from the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau as he launched the one million tree planting campaign at the Savura catchment plant in Colo-i-Suva this morning.
Ratu Epeli said the campaign helps to clean the air, create a place of beauty and enjoyment and most of all to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions from our power industries such as transport, commerce and building.
He encourages everyone to plant one tree of your choice until the target is met by 2011.
About 22 trees were planted today and the remaining 999,978 trees are to be planted within one year.
