The 2013 Fijian Constitution comes into effect today and is now the supreme law of Fiji.

In assenting to the 2013 Fijian Constitution yesterday, President Ratu Epeli Nailatikalau called the moment a historic day for Fiji.

At exactly 3.36pm, Nailatikau signed the constitution in front of Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, Government Ministers and invited guests at Government House.

Ratu Nailatikau said the constitution is also a blueprint for the future direction of the country which establishes the principle that every Fijian is equal.
