President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has appealed to everyone to approach the 2014 elections with a spirit of good will.
In his national Fiji Day address, Ratu Epeli said now in the 43rd year since independence and after 3 previous constitutions, we finally have a constitution on which to build one nation, one Fiji.
He said it allows us to conduct elections based on the best practices that is free, fair and credible and that is enjoyed by countries around the world.
He said before next year’s Fiji Day, our constitution will take us to the first genuinely democratic parliamentary elections.
He added only with unity can there be prosperity.
Ratu Epeli said we should also remember the services of peacekeepers in the Middle East and pray for their safety as well as other Fijians serving overseas.
He also said that he has visited 121 secondary schools and has spoken to more than 55,000 young people about HIV and will visit the remaining 54 schools over the next few months.
The President said many of the students tell him that they want to forge a new and inclusive future for our country.
He said we must embrace their optimism, patriotism and passionate belief in unity.
The President also urged everyone to care and look after the environment.
