The position of Fiji's President should always be given to the indigenous Fijians.
Those were the sentiments of former Opposition Leader Mick Beddoes, who said that while Fiji can learn from the US elections and elect a non Fijian as Prime Minister, the position of President however should remain with the indigenous Fijians.
Beddoes said he hopes that amendments can be made so people can vote for an indigenous person to become present.
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama had stated that Fiji can learn from the United States of America and learn to elect a leader irrespective of one's race.
Bainimarama said Obama has vowed to bring change and in Fiji he, Bainimarama, is trying to bring a change that will also ensure true parliamentary democracy and eradicate race based politics and electoral system.
