US President Barack Obama has offered his warmest congratulations to the people of Fiji on behalf of the American people as we commemorate the 43rd anniversary of our independence.

In a statement Obama said the people of the United States deeply value the friendship with the Fijian people and shared commitment to peace, security, democratic ideals, and the rule of law. 

Obama said on this festive occasion, they wish us much success in our continued efforts to restore a democratic government in Fiji.

The US President added it is his hope that relations between the countries will continue to strengthen in coming years and that the people of Fiji will be blessed with freedom, peace, and prosperity.
