Fiji may be given time to prepare for the next general elections, however this will depend on the explanations given by the Fiji delegation led by Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama during the 39th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting.

Acting Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Feleti Teo said while leaders will be holding Fiji accountable to their timeframe on elections given last year in Tonga, all sides to the story needs to be conveyed to the leaders this Wednesday and then an agreement will be sought on the issue.

According to Teo, bullying tactics by Australia and New Zealand on Fiji's situation may not be the issue during the meeting, as all member countries will contribute to and discuss the matter.

Teo added he hopes Commodore Bainimarama will come to Niue as there is no official information denying the fact that Bainimarama will not travel with his delegation to the meeting.

However, confirmation has been received that Bainimarama's room for accommodation has been booked at the Matavai Resort, the only resort on the island especially for the Forum.

Issues to be discussed at the meet apart from Fiji's situation will be the Pacific plan, security issues, positive developments on the RAMSI regional submission to the Solomon Islands, climate change and the Nauru report.
