The Ministry of Social Welfare has asked two authorized vendors who are part of Government's food voucher programme to enter into negotiation with suppliers for further discounts.
Social Welfare Acting Permanent Secretary, Govind Sami said they met with the two supermarkets New World and Morris Hedstrom last week and have received positive feedbacks from the two vendors.
However, Sami said they have asked the two supermarkets to talk to suppliers for more discounts so that the food voucher recipients could benefit from this.
Sami said some recipients are asking for non food items like soap, toothpaste and mosquito coils and has stressed that the monthly $30 food vouchers are for the purchase of basic food items only.
