The Interim Defense and National Security Minister today launched the "Poppy Appeal" for close relatives of ex-servicemen who served our country with distinction.
While doing the launching at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva this morning, Ratu Epeli Ganilau said this is a time for reflection and remembering those that have fallen for the cause of freedom.
He added Remembrance Day will be celebrated on the 11th of next month, the time when we remembered all those who gave their lives in wars across the world so that others may live in peace.
Ratu Epeli said the money collected from this poppy appeal cannot take away the pain or loss but they can try to make life as bearable as possible.
This year is the 30th anniversary of Fiji's first peacekeeping operation since 1978.
