Poor water supply which is closely related with poor sanitation is a concern with some of the schools in Savusavu.
This is after a team from the Fiji Red Cross and SOPAC carried out a case study in the township and identified the hardships the schools faced and how they will try to work in partnership to help solve the problem.
SOPAC's Iva Bakaniceva added they are trying to at least provide these schools with wash basins, soap and toilet paper, to stop the spread of diseases.
With three days remaining before the start of term three, the heads of the Principal and Head teacher's Association are both calling on school heads to ensure the contingency plans are put in place now to counter unplanned water cuts that leads to such problems.
The call comes after Education Minister Filipe Bole requested school committees and managements whose school usually face water shortages to make the necessary arrangements, if there is no water supply at the school, so that it does not affect studies when school resumes next week.
