The Fiji Red Cross Society received a poor response for their annual Door Knock Appeal this year, with less than its target reached.

The weeklong fundraiser conducted between the 21st and 28th of July, direct donations and collections in cans reached a mere $45,700 compared to $100,153 raised last year.

In a statement, Director General, Alison Cupit said that she was very disappointed with the response from members of the public towards their National Society's annual fundraiser.

Cupit went on to say that it was a pity that people only thought of the Red Cross Society where there was a disaster because they do much more work in the community in addition to the mandate to provide disaster relief.

Cupit added that the amount is not just a target for fundraising but is an amount required to fund the delivery of our services to the most vulnerable in our community.
