Fiji Council of Social Services has partly blamed those poor people of the Northern Division for the state they are currently living in.
Speaking to Fijivillage News, Executive Director, Hassan Khan stressed that they ran a number of programmes in the North educating people on how they can better their lives. According to Khan latest figures released on poverty yesterday shows that people have not followed their teachings.
Meanwhile, the Ecumenical Centre for Research Education and Advocacy said Donor Agencies should concentrate more on policies that help the poor.
Programme Consultant, Father Kevin Barr has hit out at donor agencies which only prefer to help private sector developments adding they now need to change their policy towards helping the poor.
Looking at the four divisions, Northern Division is the worst off with 53% of the people living under the poverty line.
