Yes, politics should be removed from the sugar industry.
These are the sentiments of the National Farmers Union agreeing with Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama that there should be no politics in the sugar industry.
National President for National Farmers Union Sanjit Maharaj said Bainimarama made this call during his visit to Ra yesterday and he has been assured that all farmers regardless of any race is been assisted by the Union.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama also stressed that civil servants who work at the Native Land Trust Board and the Lands Ministry must step up to their work.
During Bainimarama's visit to the Western Division rural and cane farming areas, complaints were received about the poor service delivered by civil servants at these two places.

Bainimarama also called on landowners in Nanuku, Ra to renew the land leases for cane farming that is now lying idle to ensure that the sugar industry progresses in Fiji.
The Water Authority of Fiji is working on digging some boreholes near some reservoirs to solve the water problems for residents near the reservoir during dry season.
Spokesperson Maika Nagalu said they are working with relevant authorities to identify some suitable places to dig the boreholes.
Nagalu made this comment when he was asked why residents near reservoirs face water disruptions.
Residents from Wailoku and Tawatawa in Lautoka told Fijivillage that they live just a few meters away from the reservior yet they still face water cuts.
Nagalu said water engineers are expected to visit Wailoku soon to identify the problem as they haven't received any complaints from the residents yet.
