The Health Ministry has admitted that the policy set up to cut costs in organising workshops and meetings in hotels was relaxed in the past few years.

Fijivillage raised the issue with the Ministry and asked if they are following the policy set up by the late former Health Minister, Dr Jona Senilagakali that all Health Ministry workshops should not be held in hotels as there are many conference rooms and venues available within the Ministry facilities.

Doctor Senilagakali had said that the ministry should focus on having meetings and not on large buffet meals and accommodation in top hotels.

He had also set up conference rooms in many divisions.

The policy was designed to cut the high costs on accommodation and fully paid meals and the saving to be used to improve health services.

Permanent Secretary, Dr Eloni Tora said he is now looking into it to see the policy is adhered to.
