The Lands Ministry has identified the policing of squatters as the major loop hole that has seen an increase in the number of squatter settlements around the country.

This follows a directive yesterday by government to implement measures to decrease the number of settlements around the country.

Permanent secretary Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said they are now meeting with other stakeholders in government to identify measures to reduce squatting and what steps to take with the current squatters.

He added that these people have taken advantage of the loop holes in government land mechanisms for too long.
