About 14 striking nurses protesting outside the Government Buildings led by Fiji Nursing Association General Secretary, Kuini Lutua were rounded up by about 50 police and military officers a few minutes ago.
The 14 nurses came outside the building where the cabinet office is situated and held up placards for less than ten minutes before the officers from the disciplinary forces rounded them up and told them to board the police bus.
It has been confirmed Lutua is also part of the group that has been taken into police custody. They have been taken to the Central Police Station.
Following the announcement by Lutua this morning that they would be protesting outside the cabinet office, a stern warning was sent out by Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
Bainimarama said that Lutua should not mislead the nurses.
Police have confirmed that all those nurses who were protesting outside the government buildings have been taken to Central Police Station for questioning.
Assistant Police Commissioner Operations, Kuata Siqila has confirmed that all these nurses were brought in just few minutes ago and his officers have started their investigations.
Siqila said that the nurses will be questioned in relation to the breach of the Public Order Act.
Meanwhile, Police spokesperson, ASP Ulaiyasi Ravula told Village News earlier this morning that there is a possibility that these nurses could be charged with Unlawful assembly.
