The Fiji Police Force has welcomed the move by the Courts to issue harsher bail conditions to those who are caught breaking road rules.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said this goes in line with their no drop policy and trying to reduce the number of road fatalities for 2010 and hopes that drivers will take heed of the strict bail conditions now in place.

SSP Mishra said the courts are now even going to the extent of placing a curfew on drivers while they await their next court sitting and only releasing drivers on cash bail.

He added the Police are doing all they can to save people from being hurt or killed due to the carelessness of some drivers who continue to drink and drive, speed and commit other road offences, and hopefully this new stand taken by the Courts will be a further deterrent to drivers.
