Police have called on parents not to let their young children swim in the river after a one year old boy drowned in Wailoa River in Naitasiri yesterday.

Assistant police spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the young boy was swimming with other children when the incident happened.

He said it's a concern that children as young as one are being allowed to swim in rivers.

About 25 people have lost their lives due to drowning in Fiji in the last six months.
