Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says they will be monitoring the sale of alcohol and keep a lookout for the sale of alcohol on the black market.

He says the Divisional Police Commanders have had discussions with night club operators who have pledged their support towards police.

Tudravu adds that night clubs, except those in the special zone which are in the City, have not been given an extension in their opening hours.

Nightclubs in the special economic zones can be open till 4am whereas those outside the city limits must close at 1am.

Meanwhile, Tudravu says there has been a decrease in crime rate in this festive season compared to last year.

He says that compared to last year, there has been a reduction by almost half in the number of reports that were received this year.

He says this can be attributed to the fact that people are adhering to the advisories by Police and the increased visibility of officers on the ground.

He adds that there is also a lot of work being done through their community policing which must have also contributed to the decrease in crime.
