Police to monitor pawn shops
After the Police and the Suva City Council have signed an agreement to declare Suva a Crime Free City, Police Public Relations Officer Ema Mua said there is a criteria in place which needs to be followed and all the pawnshop owners know it and they are now targeting these shops.
Meanwhile, Mua has also expressed concern at the type of crimes being committed recently including murder and defilement.
She said that there is a need to change the way of raising awareness on these matters.
Meanwhile, officers from the Fiji Police Force Traffic Department will be carrying out numerous operations from tonight, especially in Suva in an aim to prevent road accidents.
With the South Pacific Pageant starting, Police Traffic Department said they want to paint a good picture of Suva as hundreds of people from overseas are also visiting the capital city.
Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra said 90 percent of road accidents are caused by drivers and this is the reason why they will act harsh on those found breaking road rules.
