People are being urged to have a safe Diwali long weekend and to drive safely on our roads.

Police officers will be out patrolling in high numbers tonight to ensure it is a safe weekend.

And also be reminded that those intending to use fireworks after 12 midnight will have to think twice as a hefty fine will apply if they are caught.

Deputy Director Operations SP Erami Raibe said while they respect people's freedom to celebrate Diwali, they will not entertain the use of fireworks after midnight.
