The Mineral Resources Department will be working with Police to clamp down on those people who are thinking of using prohibited firecrackers this Diwali.

Permanent Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni has also warned that people must be eighteen years of age to purchase fireworks and retailers are not allowed to sell or supply fireworks to a person who is under the age of eighteen.

He has also requested people to only purchase firecrackers from licensed retailers and retailers that are allowed to sell firecrackers should display necessary license issued by the Mineral Resources Department.

Lt. Colonel Leweni has warned that anyone found breaking the law will be handed to police for investigation.

The Mineral Resources Department has also warned people to refrain from making their own fireworks at home.

This includes the use of bamboo guns.

People found to be selling or using banned firecrackers which are breaching the declaration upon prosecution could face a fine of up to $25,000.
