Police are now ready to execute raids on businesses suspected of selling pirated DVDs and CDs and are confident the evidence gathered will be sufficient to warrant prosecution.
Deputy director police operations SP Erami Raibe said their officers have been briefed by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on the Copy Right Amendment Act and the requirements to execute a successful raid.
He said it is important to ensure that the officers are able to distinguish between original and pirated DVDs and CDs.
Raibe said some businesses, suspected of selling pirated DVDs and CDs, are now under surveillance and more raids will now follow.
Yesterday, police called off a raid at Comsol in Nadi after a directive from the Police headquarters in Suva as they were awaiting instructions on certain requirements for raids from the office of the DPP.
