Police presence beefs up for long weekend
Speaking to Village News, Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni confirms that police numbers on the ground has been increased, particularly in the Central division due to increased reports of home invasions and robbery with violence cases.
Commodore Teleni also similar steps have been taken in other centers.
Meanwhile, Director CID Waisea Vakamocea confirms that they are following some leads following the murder of a Tavua shopkeeper during a robbery on Friday afternoon.
Tavua Police confirm that instructions have been received from Head quarters that additional man power be assigned to track down those responsible and Officers from Ba and Rakiraki have been brought in to assist.
The 66 year old shopkeeper was closing his business when the suspects stormed into his shop, assaulted him with a heavy object before they tied him up and robbed three elderly women in the house. The stolen vehicle used as the get away vehicle was found abandoned in Yaladro Ba.
