The Police Commissioner has told his officers that inability and unavailability of tools and equipment should not be an excuse for police officers not dealing with the complaints of the public.

While addressing 372 officers at the second quarter parade in Nasova this morning, Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua said police officers are expected to be in the front line everyday to address issues quickly and effectively, as we go towards 2014.

He said officers should response accordingly and not to abuse their power and misuse their authority as they are the custodians of what is right.

The Police Commissioner highlighted that he received four complaints against the police from last night to this morning.

He also highlighted that the Western Division is one of the divisions that continues to have a lot of bad reports and Brigadier General Naivaluru stressed that the senior officers from the headquarters need to address these issues.

He told the officers that he is not satisfied with the complaints received against some of the officers and he said they should always attend to complaints even if it is a small matter.

The Commissioner also said the Police Force can achieve all their Key Performance Indicators in the last two quarters of this year.

He said they were able to achieve five out of the 8 Key Performance Indicators and officers can improve this in the remaining quarters.

Meanwhile, 42 senior officers today received medals for their loyal service to the force.

One of the medal recipients, SSP Maratino Qiolevu received the Fiji Police Long Service medal for his 25 years of service in the force.

He said the support from his family and his hard work has paid off.
