Police have obtained a warrant and will visit the owner of the house in Raiwai where a dog was allegedly beaten and thrown from the second-floor balcony yesterday.

Police say they will visit the house tomorrow with a team from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Fiji.

They visited the house after 4 o’clock this afternoon and the gate was locked.

Police Spokesperson Savaira Tabua says providing assistance that is needed by SPCA Fiji is their priority.

SPCA Fiji says a complaint was made by a resident who witnessed the alleged incident.

SPCA Fiji says their team went to attend to the case with the assistance of Police last night but despite all attempts by their staff  they were unsuccessful in gaining custody of the dog in question as they could not enter the premises.

SPCA Fiji says the man in the premises allegedly threatened to “chop” the staff that responded to the incident.

It says they are saddened, frustrated and fearful for the welfare of the dog.
