Police in Rakiraki are closely monitoring the villagers of Vanuakula, Na-Korovou, Namara and Saivou after a group from Vanuakula allegedly attacked church members of Namara, Saivou and Na-korovou on Thursday and also allegedly gang raped a 17yr old girl.

Police have confirmed that the villagers of Na-Korovou, Namara and Saivou were practicing for a crusade organized by the Assembly of God Church when the incident took place.

According to police the attackers did not like the idea of having the crusade.

The people were stoned, bashed up and were chased away while they were practicing and playing drums.

A 17yr old girl, who was also in the singing group claimed that she was raped by two villagers during the attack.

The villagers sustained injuries and were treated and sent home while the attackers are being interrogated by police.

Meanwhile, Police are expected to question the Turaga-Ni Koro of Vatubalavu in Navosa in relation to the alleged cultivation of Marijuana.

Assistant Spokesperson, Atunaisa Sokomuri, who is with the soldiers and police team currently raiding the farms in Navosa, said that they believe the Turaga-Ni Koro has knowledge of the marijuana farms and those involved.
