Police are now looking into complaints by residents of Maqbool Road, Nadera as many of their homes have been targetted by a group of youth from the area.

The residents are calling for more Police patrols and presence in their area due to repeated robberies and break‑ins.

They also want feedback from Police on the investigations.

A concerned resident says they have been robbed about 10 times in the past two years, and there have been no updates on investigations or arrests.

The resident says a group of youth from the neighbourhood is allegedly behind this as they always steal coconuts from a number of homes, and enter many compounds when no one is home.

They also target homes only occupied by females.

In the latest daylight break-in at their home, the thieves took a number of items including all the groceries, a 42 inch TV and shoes.

The resident says the Valelevu Police Station was contacted yet again and they took the report but there has been no progress.

They also claim that they went to get an update from the station and waited there from the morning to about 5pm as the officer concerned kept saying that he was busy.

When questioned by Fijivillage, Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Henry Brown looked into the matter and spoke to the Divisional Police Commander Southern.

ACP Brown confirms that there has been an increase in the number of serious crimes committed in the area and he has directed officers to increase visibility and intensify investigations into the reports.

Brown says a number of those cases have been investigated and are before the courts.

We will have an update on the pending cases later today.
