Police have started their investigations on six former civil servants who were allegedly involved in a racket to defraud the government of $124,000.

Police confirm that six who were employed by the Government Supplies Department allegedly colluded with each other and with certain buyers by making fictitious entries in stores receipt vouchers and other documents to effect payment in 2004.

The matter came to light when authorities felt suspicious. The matter was then reported to police by the Public Service Commission. The six have been terminated.

They are expected to be interviewed by police next week.
