Police are now investigating the death of a 13 month old baby boy who died in a house fire in Sigatoka on Thursday afternoon.

Assistant Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said they are awaiting a report from the fire Authority investigators after which their investigators will move in to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

He said as part of the investigations, the parents will also be questioned.

The 13-month old baby was at home alone with his three year old brother while their father was in the sugarcane field and their mother was at a neighbors's house.

Preliminary reports suggest the probable cause of the fire was a child playing with matches and the fire may have started from the mattress.

However, according to police, they are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

The 3 year old boy was able to escape however his younger brother was caught in the flames inside the house.

The fire destroyed the lean-to corrugated iron house.
