The Police have today said that their remand cell blocks are cleaned daily and are hygienic to remand a person.

This comes after a remand prisoner who was being kept at the Labasa Police Station cell block hired a taxi and went to Vaturekuka Prison claiming that the cell block was smelly and unhygienic.

Police officers had to pay the prisoner's taxi fare from their welfare fund.

However, Assistant Police Spokesperson Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri has defended the claim saying that the cells are clean.
