Police are conducting their own investigation to determine what caused the bus to fall of a bridge in Waimari, Rakiraki yesterday injuring 17 passengers.

Divisional Traffic Officer Western, Richard Raju said they are awaiting reports from the LTA and they will interview the bus driver who was also injured in the accident.

One of the Directors of Akbar Buses, Imroz Janiff Akbar said that poor road condition caused the mechanical fault in the bus which is beleived to have caused the accident yesterday.

Janiff said there were no railings or edgings and no proper signs to indicate a bridge is ahead and said the bridge poorly constructed.

Meanwhile, Dr Dasi of Rakiraki Hospital has confirmed that four passengers are still admitted while one of the two passengers who was transferred to Lautoka hospital, has been sent home.
