Police are seriously concerned about the number of suicide and attempted suicides in the country.
It is also worrying to see the increasing number of young people who are resorting to take this drastic step rather than trying to seek assistance and counselling to solve their problems.
Suicide figures currently stand at 55 for this year.
It was also 55 cases for the same period last year.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said there are 51 attempted suicide cases so far this year compared to 44 for the same period last year.
Two tragic cases have been reported in the past week where a 15-year-old male student committed suicide in Suva while an 18-year-old female student committed suicide in a school compound at a school in the Northern Division.
Naisoro said they are having an inquest for both cases and the findings will be forwarded to a resident magistrate.
The Fiji Police Force said the fact that students are resorting to such actions is a major concern.
They said we need the assistance of the whole community to help raise awareness and help give students the opportunity to be heard and understood when they are confronted with situations.
