Going into the long weekend and onwards, drivers, please follow all road rules and take safety and defensive driving measures to prevent accidents.

This is the call from Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra who said from January to now, there have been 5,098 speeding cases, 465 people not wearing seatbelts, 240 cases of careless driving, 274 drink driving and others, totaling 12,000 cases in road offenses.

Mishra added despite their calls for people to adhere to road rules, there were six cases of drunk driving last night and this is a clear sign that people are still compromising the safety of people on our roads.

The Director Traffic said the Booze Bus will be around this long weekend as well as random Police checks to ensure that it is a safe long weekend.

Mishra also said passengers also play a vital role in reminding drivers that the safety of their passengers are paramount either in a private vehicle or in public transport.
