Police are now awaiting further instructions from the DPP's Office before further raids are conducted on businesses suspected of selling pirated DVDs and CDs.
Police had to terminate a raid at the Comsol outlet in Nadi yesterday after instructions from Police headquarters.
It was the first raid after a lapse of a few weeks since the initial raids were conducted.
Deputy Director Police Operations Erami Raibe said his officers need to be equipped with various information before they are in a position to carry out further raids.
Under the new copyright laws which came into effect on September 1st, a dealer will have to prove that the music or video DVD's are not pirated or face the penalties which includes fines between $5,000 to $50,000 and 12 months imprisonment.
It are understood that the Police is seeking more information on the matter to ensure they are also able to prove that the DVDs and CDs are pirated before raids are carried out.
The DPP’s Office is yet to comment on the matter.
