The Fiji Police Force stresses that a media report saying that police have obtained a court order for the demolition of homes built from money made from the sale of marijuana is factually incorrect.
Police Chief of Investigations and Intelligence, ACP Luke Navela says this is an avenue that they may explore as Operation Cavuraka enters the investigation phases of focusing on the proceeds of crime and unexplained wealth of those involved.
However Navela says there are strict processes that must be adhered to and the perception that police can dismantle a home they believe was built from the proceeds of crime at any time is misleading.
He says there are certain elements police must be able to prove before they can apply for a court order.
Navela says while police do want to send a strong message that earnings from the sale of illicit drugs will not be condoned, they are also mindful of the need to follow the proper processes required by law before they are able to execute the next step of their operations.
Fijivillage has raised the question on how police will determine if the houses were built from the money made through marijuana sales.
Police stress that no decisions on all these issues have been made.
