Three police officers in the western division received serious injuries after the police patrol vehicles they were in were stoned in Nadi in two separate incidents yesterday.

Assistant spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed that two police cars were stoned near Namotomoto village in Nadi. In this incident, two police constables were injured.

In another incident, a police vehicle from the Lautoka Police Station was stoned on its way back from Nadi at the Nadi bridge.

Another police vehicle came to the rescue but was also stoned with another constable injured.

According to Sokomuri, in both cases people were brought in for questioning but had to be released due to insufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, police have arrested and charged seven drivers in the western division with drunk driving.

Divisional Traffic Officer Western ASP Richard Raju has confirmed that some of these drivers were arrested outside the gates at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi after watching the Fiji Bitter Fiji Fact.

ASP Raju said the drivers were locked in custody overnight and charges were laid this morning.

They all have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
