Nausori Police are searching for a 13-year-old student who is believed to have drowned in Rewa river yesterday afternoon.

Divisional Crime Officer Eastern ASP Ramesh Chand had confirmed that the student was diving for fresh water mussels with his elder brother when he went missing near the Lakena Irrigation channel.

The Police Search and rescue teams were deployed however he has not been located.

According to police there were strong currents in the Rewa River when he got swept away.

This is the second incident in the last two days where a school student has drowned. In another incident a class 5 student of Labasa drowned while he was swimming in the Qereqere creek which was flooded.

A Post mortem will be conducted today.
