Nausori Police have questioned and released two teenage girls who had alleged that a Suva based taxi driver tried to rape them early this morning.

Divisional Crime Officer Eastern, Ramesh Chand said they were getting conflicting statements from the two girls and investigations continue to establish their claim that the taxi driver had attempted to rape the two.

Chand said the two girls were drunk during the incident and could have lied to Police about the incident.

The two girls claim they hired a taxi from Suva to go to Namadi Heights at 2.45 this morning but instead the driver took them to Nasinu.

The girls told the Police that the driver than took the taxi to a farm road in Nasinu and stopped at an isolated place and alleged that the driver than locked the doors and tried to rape them.

A team of Police Officers later arrived at the scene and arrested the taxi driver. Police have also released the driver after questioning as investigations continue.
