Police presence in picnic spots around the country will be beefed up today as thousands of families are expected to head to the beaches this Boxing Day.
Speaking to Village News, Police Chief of Staff-Operations, SSP Berenando Daveta said police will be out in numbers and stresses that they will not condone behaviour, such as drinking on the beaches, which could cause disturbance to others.
Similar operations are being initiated in the western and northern divisions while Daveta said motorists can also expect increased highway patrols around the country as they want to ensure that Boxing Day is incident free.
Meanwhile, police urge members of the public not to let children near water without supervision.
This comes after a four year old boy drowned while swimming with friends in Nasea Village, Labasa, on Monday.
Police said a search was conducted after the boy failed to return with his friends and his body was found floating downstream.
The post mortem is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
