Two Police officers sustained serious injuries last night after they were allegedly stabbed while trying to arrest an escapee.

Police Spokeswoman Ema Mua has confirmed that a team of four officers from the Strike Back team went to arrest escapee Afzal Hussain from a house in Sakoca at around 9pm last night after a tip off.

It is alleged that during his arrest Hussain got hold of a kitchen knife and allegedly stabbed the two officers who sustained serious head and body injuries.

The two were taken to CWM hospital last night.

Hussain who escaped from the Natabua Prison two weeks ago is serving sentence for Rape and Indecent assault.

He is currently being questioned at the Nabua Police Station and charges are expected to be laid later today.
